Your planning commission just green-lit a bunch of stuff

Howdy, Calgary. Cassidy Redcloud here, coming at you from the Morning Wire. For real though, let's talk about what's been brewing down at City Hall, specifically with the Calgary Planning Commission.

Looks like the Commission's been busy putting the hammer down on some new developments. According to the real-time Civic Intelligence Monitor data from 2026-04-04T11:35:24.884Z, we've had 22 commercial and new construction permits issued this week. That's a decent push for new builds. More specifically, the Calgary Planning Commission voted on March 12, 2026, to recommend that Council give three readings to reports CPC2026-0209 and CPC2026-0143. Commissioners Nathan Hawryluk, Thom Mahler, Charles Boechler, Katherine Wagner, and Chris Hardwicke all voted 'Yes' on those motions, so they sailed right through.

This means more construction across the city, potentially changing the face of some neighborhoods. It's the kind of thing that tells you where the city's growth is headed, and who’s getting the green light to put shovels in the ground.

What to Watch Next

Keep an eye on where these 22 new commercial permits land. We'll be watching to see which communities start seeing those construction cranes go up.

This is Calgary — we've seen the boom, we've seen the bust, and we showed up anyway.
