Here's what your council did this month
Alright, Calgary, let's talk about what's been happening behind the scenes at City Hall. The Calgary Planning Commission has been busy this month, greenlighting some significant development. On March 12, 2026, we saw multiple motions carried, with Council members like Nathan Hawryluk, Thom Mahler, Charles Boechler, Katherine Wagner, and Chris Hardwicke all voting yes to recommendations in reports CPC2026-0209 and CPC2026-0143. This means they're recommending Council give three readings to these motions, moving them closer to becoming official.
For real though, what does that actually mean for us on the ground? Our civic intelligence monitors picked up 18 commercial/new construction permits issued in Calgary this week, as of April 28, 2026, at 12:28:34 UTC. That's a pretty steady stream of new projects getting the green light. It shows development is still chugging along, even with all the talk about diversification.
On the property assessment side, our monitors pulled some interesting numbers. Canada Olympic Park, for instance, has three properties with an average assessed value of $56,093,333. Nose Hill Park follows with seven properties averaging $40,863,286. These are big numbers, showing the significant value tied up in some of our city's landmarks and green spaces. What we'll need to watch is how these new permits and ongoing assessments impact our city's landscape and infrastructure in the long run. This is Calgary — we've seen the boom, we've seen the bust, and we showed up anyway.
