City Hall just approved 28 new builds this week

Your new build just got easier

Well, good morning, Calgary. Cassidy Redcloud here, live from the MiTL Sports Desk, keeping an eye on everything happening from the Bow River pathways to the city council chambers. This is Calgary — we've seen the boom, we've seen the bust, and we showed up anyway.

For real though, we're seeing some real movement in the city's development pipeline. Our Civic Intelligence Monitor, which keeps tabs on all the permits flowing through the system, shows that **28 commercial and new construction permits have been issued in Calgary this week.** That's a pretty steady clip, indicating that developers are still pushing forward with projects across the city.

### What's Moving Through City Hall

On the City Hall side, the Calgary Planning Commission has been busy giving the green light to several reports. On March 12, 2026, we saw multiple motions carried, with members like Nathan Hawryluk, Thom Mahler, Charles Boechler, Katherine Wagner, and Chris Hardwicke all voting 'Yes' on reports like CPC2026-0209 and CPC2026-0143. These reports typically deal with land use amendments and development applications, essentially laying the groundwork for new projects to move ahead.

It tells you that the city's still growing, even if sometimes it feels like we're just capping off old conversations. We'll be watching to see where these projects break ground and what kind of impact they'll have on our neighbourhoods.
