Your neighbors are calling 311 about 2,100 potholes.

Your neighbors are calling 311 about what now

Okay so, Chi-Town on the wire — you already know. Let's talk about what's actually happening out here, beyond the headlines, you know? My tía called me last night, talking about how the city needs to do something about the potholes on her block near Marquette Park. And guess what? She's not wrong.

Nah nah nah, let me explain. So, the latest 311 data? It's wild. People are calling in a lot for "Information Only," which is like, okay, but then you get to the real stuff. "Aircraft Noise Complaint" is almost 9,500 requests! Are we all living under O'Hare or something? But then, and this is what my tía was talking about, "Pothole in Street Complaint" is at 2,100 requests. Two thousand, one hundred! And that's just since yesterday. Like, you try driving down Stony Island after a winter like we just had, it’s a minefield.

And get this, "Tree Trim Request" isn't even being accepted anymore? So we got potholes and overgrown trees all over the place. What are we paying for, mi gente? Also, five new lobbyists just registered, all active until 2026. Dean Maragos, Emily Ramsey, Zachary Kahn, Jeremy Kudon, Milan Petrovic. What are they pushing for? Something tells me it's not more money for the Red Line extension. Keep an eye on those names, because they're the ones whispering in the ears of the people making decisions about our streets and our noise.

This isn't just numbers, right? It's about how we live, how our kids get to school, if you can even hear yourself think in your own apartment. We gotta demand more than just "information only" from our city.

Chi-Town on the wire — you already know.
