Your Chicago 311 calls tell a wild story about plane noise

Your city hall is really focused on one thing

Okay so, Chi-Town on the wire — you already know. Let's talk about what's happening at City Hall, because some of this stuff, like, it really tells you what's on people's minds.

### What Everyone's Calling About

Nah nah nah, let me explain: the 311 calls are wild, right? According to the latest data, the top two issues people are calling about are "311 Information Only Call" with 11,735 requests and "Aircraft Noise Complaint" with 11,035 requests. Seriously? More people are calling about planes flying over their heads than, like, *potholes*? There were only 2,710 pothole complaints, and that's usually a huge one. It makes you think about who's getting affected by all that noise. You know, like, you're trying to have a backyard barbecue in Marquette Park, and it's just *rrrrr*.

### The Quiet Work Happening

It’s also interesting what’s *not* happening. Like, the city isn't taking "Tree Trim Request" calls anymore, which is 1,494 requests just sitting there. You see permits for small stuff, like replacing a two-story porch for $46,000, or a $4,000 interior alteration in a unit, but it’s mostly maintenance. No huge new developments jumping out from the records today. It feels like a lot of little fixes, not big moves.

These numbers show us where the everyday pain points are for regular Chicagoans, and what’s getting attention – or not getting attention – from the city. Keep an eye on those noise complaints, because that's not going away.
