What's up with those planes over your house?
Chi-Town on the wire — you already know. Okay so, let me explain. You know how you call 311 for everything? Like, your garbage cart's busted, or there’s a pothole big enough to swallow a whole sedan? Well, the new data from City Hall just dropped, and it’s kinda wild what people are actually calling about.
Nah nah nah, the top request wasn't even about rats, which, believe me, I get *a lot* of calls about from my tía in Little Village. It's not graffiti, it's not streetlights out. It's "311 INFORMATION ONLY CALL" with over twelve thousand requests. That’s 12,069 calls, to be exact. And the next one? "Aircraft Noise Complaint." Seriously! Over eight thousand of you called about plane noise – 8,744 complaints. That's almost five times more than graffiti removal requests, and ten times more than people complaining about rodents.
This tells me two things, right? One, people are using 311 just to find things out, which is good, I guess. But two, people are REALLY tired of these planes flying over their houses, like, non-stop. I mean, I hear it sometimes when I'm walking near Promontory Point, and it's loud. This ain't just an O'Hare thing anymore, people. What are they flying, and why are we hearing it so much? We gotta keep an eye on this, because if that many people are calling, it's a real issue, you know?
