Your city council just made some decisions and here's what happened
Good morning, Edmonton. Darren Fedoruk here, reporting from the MiTL Sports Desk, where we track everything that matters, even the quiet hum of civic governance.
Council’s Agenda Review Committee had a busy, albeit unanimous, session on March 24, 2026. All four members present – A. Knack, A. Stevenson, E. Rutherford, and J. Wright – voted in lockstep on five separate motions. This included the adoption of their agenda, the approval of previous minutes, and two motions concerning whether they'd meet in public or private. Yes, they voted to meet both publicly and privately, specifically moving to meet privately under section 29 (advice from officials) of the *Access to Information Act* for item 2.1. It's like watching a well-oiled machine, or perhaps a very polite, very synchronized dance. Honestly though, it's about transparency, even when they're deciding to be less transparent for specific reasons.
What else has been happening at City Hall?
* **Council Expenses:** Councillor Clarke and Councillor Elliott are both heading to the 2025 Alberta Municipalities Convention in Calgary. Clarke's accommodation for November 12-14, 2025, is costing $825.88, plus $685.00 for registration. Elliott's accommodation is the same $825.88, with an additional $348.00 for food and incidentals. Travel, as they say, broadens the mind, and apparently, also the expense report.
* **Gifts to Council:** Anne Stevenson received a gift valued at $120 from the Edmonton International Airport on November 24, 2025. Aaron Paquette and Andrew Knack reported nothing to disclose for 2025. A nice little gesture, perhaps a thank you for navigating the vast expanses of the EIA.
It’s always worth knowing how our elected officials are spending their time and our money. These small details, from the unanimous votes to convention expenses, build the bigger picture of how Edmonton is run.
Edmonton doesn't need your approval. Never did.
