Your City Hall trip to Calgary will cost you.
So, you’re wondering where your tax dollars are going, aren't you? Let's talk about the Alberta Municipalities Convention. Councillor Clarke and Councillor Elliott both expensed $825.88 for accommodation at the November 2025 gathering in Calgary. Clarke also tallied $685.00 for registration, while Elliott claimed $348.00 for food and incidentals. That’s a combined $2,689.76 for these two councillors to attend a convention that, frankly, is a shorter drive than some of the River Valley trails are long. Honestly though, it's an important event for municipal networking and learning, even if the destination always seems to be Calgary.
It's not just the expenses that sometimes raise an eyebrow, but the little details too. Councillor Anne Stevenson received a gift of $120 from the Edmonton International Airport in November 2025. It’s not a king's ransom, but it's on the record for a reason. These small transactions, when accumulated, paint a picture of how city hall operates. Keep an eye on those expense reports; they’re often more revealing than a deep dive into agenda review committee minutes.
Edmonton doesn't need your approval. Never did.
