Your councillors are off to Calgary next year. Guess who's paying?

Your city hall is sending some people to Calgary

It seems the big news out of City Hall this week, if you can call it "news" when it’s so utterly predictable it might as well be the sunrise, is the upcoming Alberta Municipalities Convention. According to recent council expenses, it appears Councillors Clarke and Elliott are heading south to Calgary for the event, November 12-14, 2025.

What it means for you:

* Councillor Clarke's trip includes $825.88 for accommodation and $685.00 for registration.

* Councillor Elliott's expenses show $825.88 for accommodation and $348.00 for food and incidentals.

* It's a pretty standard convention for municipal politicians, honestly though, it's a good chance to see what other cities are getting up to. Or, you know, just get out of Edmonton for a few days before the real cold hits.

I imagine they'll be discussing everything from infrastructure to, well, probably more infrastructure. Always more infrastructure. It builds character, I suppose. Edmonton doesn't need your approval. Never did.
