Your councillors are taking expenses and gifts you should see
Good morning, Edmonton. Darren Fedoruk here, trying to find some warmth in this May air that still feels like it’s contemplating a late-season snowfall. Honestly though, that’s just Edmonton. We adapt.
City Hall’s latest records show a few interesting movements, especially when you look at expenses and gifts reported by our councillors. It’s always good to keep an eye on where public funds and goodwill are flowing, isn't it?
Councillor Keren Tang and Councillor Anne Stevenson, for example, each reported receiving a gift from BILD Edmonton. Councillor Tang’s gift was valued at $390 on February 18, 2026, and Councillor Stevenson’s was $397 on March 11, 2026. These are on the public gifts register, as they should be. It’s not a huge sum, but it’s interesting to note the source, given BILD’s role in local development.
Meanwhile, expense reports for November 2025 show Councillor Erin Rutherford and Councillor Joanne Wright each expensed $825.88 for accommodation at the 2025 Alberta Municipalities Convention in Calgary. Councillor Rutherford also expensed an additional $348.00 for food and incidentals at the same event. These are standard convention costs, but it always helps to see where the money goes.

Keep an eye on the public disclosures as we move forward. Transparency, after all, is not just a suggestion; it's the expectation. Edmonton doesn't need your approval. Never did.
