Your money is going to fix a Tim Hortons
Bonjour, Ottawa. Simone Okafor-Bouchard here, and the real story is never on the Hill — it's always just off it. Let's talk about where your city's money, or at least the permits for it, is flowing.
We've got some interesting numbers from the City's issued building permits. While some folks are putting in new detached homes for over two million dollars, like that one on Aviation Road in Ward 1, others are getting public approval for, well, a Tim Hortons. Permit BP 3ALT 26-430 shows $84,619 approved for interior alterations and recladding the drive-thru window at the Tim Hortons on 780 Bancroft Drive, Ward 11. Yes, you read that right. Almost eighty-five thousand dollars. Pour un Tim Hortons.
It's just… a lot of money for a drive-thru window. Meanwhile, on the development front, Ward 8 is looking at a new residential apartment building at 1970 and 1980 Fowler Drive. That application, OZ/OPA 25 23, is still in process, so we'll be watching how that moves forward. It’s always fascinating to see what gets the green light and what takes its time through the system.
This isn't to say Tim Hortons doesn't need a nice drive-thru. But when you see the price tag, you start to wonder about priorities. We'll be keeping an eye on these permits and developments to see how they shape your neighbourhoods and, perhaps, your morning coffee run.

You know, Keith and the gang are probably already talking about this on the Morning Wire — catch it live at mornings.live.
