Your city just dropped $1.5M on one industrial upgrade

Your city hall just dropped some big spending news

Bon matin, Ottawa. Simone Okafor-Bouchard here, off the Hill and into the real stories. We’ve been poring over the latest City Hall data – the kind of stuff that tells you exactly where the money is going, even if it feels like it went through three levels of bureaucratic approval before it hit my desk.

What jumped out this morning? A significant chunk of change for commercial and industrial upgrades. We're talking about a permit, BP 3ALT 26-804, for interior alterations on the 2nd and 6th floors at 4701 Tahoe Blvd, ringing in at a cool $568,320. That's commercial, in Ward 3. Then, another big one, BP 3ALT 26-444, for interior alterations with a new fire alarm system – landlord work – at 5900 Keaton Cres in Ward 5, to the tune of $1,556,164. That’s for industrial.

* **Commercial alterations:** 4701 Tahoe Blvd (Ward 3) — $568,320

* **Industrial upgrades:** 5900 Keaton Cres (Ward 5) — $1,556,164

* **New residential build:** 865 Aviation Rd (Ward 1) — $2,066,986

These aren’t just numbers on a page; they’re investments in our city's infrastructure, especially the parts that keep people employed. It suggests a focus on shoring up existing commercial and industrial spaces, making them safer and more modern. While a new two-storey detached dwelling in Ward 1 on Aviation Road is coming in at over two million dollars, these commercial and industrial permits show where a good chunk of development effort is being directed right now.

The real story is never on the Hill – it's always just off it.
