Tents are coming back to Eglinton in 2026. What's up with that?

Did you see the latest permits? Tents are coming back to Eglinton.

Alright, *bonjour* Ottawa, let's talk about what's actually happening out there, because the real story is never on the Hill – it's always just off it. My internal monitors, they are showing some interesting movements in the permit department, and one in particular caught my eye.

### Tents and Townhouses on the Horizon

According to the City of Ottawa's issued building permits, we're seeing two permits, #BP 3TEN 26-406 and #BP 3TEN 26-407, for the installation of five temporary tents each by The Bani Hashi Society at 900 Eglinton Avenue East. These are scheduled for two separate periods: June 16 to June 27, 2026, and then again from July 26 to August 6, 2026. Each permit is valued at $6,500 and falls under Ward 3. It's interesting to see these temporary structures being planned so far in advance. Are we looking at a new annual event, or something larger in the works?

* **Permit #BP 3TEN 26-406:** Five temporary tents, June 16-27, 2026.

* **Permit #BP 3TEN 26-407:** Five temporary tents, July 26-Aug 6, 2026.

* **Location:** 900 Eglinton Avenue East, Ward 3.

* **Applicant:** The Bani Hashi Society.

* **Value:** $6,500 per permit.

These might seem like small entries in the grand scheme of things, but temporary structures often signal larger community or commercial activities. Given the lead time, it’s not a last-minute scramble, which usually means some significant planning is involved. We'll have to keep an eye on Ward 3 to see what these tents are going to be housing.

Beyond the tents, the City's active development applications list is showing a townhouse development proposed at 376, 390 Derry Road West and 0 Oaktree Circle in Ward 11. This application, #SP 25 67, is currently in process. It’s a constant reminder that even as the city grows, the demand for housing, particularly those mid-density options like townhouses, remains strong across the Greenbelt.

Keep your eyes peeled, *mon ami*. This city never truly sleeps, it just plans very, very carefully.
