Your neighbours just permitted $13,000 in tents. For what?

Your neighbours are building a lot of things

Alright, let's talk about what's actually happening out there, beyond the usual noise on the Hill. Our friends at City Hall just issued a few interesting building permits, and one that caught my eye is for the Bani Hashi Society. They're installing five temporary tents at 900 Eglinton Ave E, twice actually. Once from June 16 to June 27, 2026, and then again from July 26 to August 6, 2026. Each permit for these commercial tents in Ward 3 is for $6,500.

It's a good reminder that even temporary structures need official approval and permits, which is how City Hall keeps track of... well, everything. That's $13,000 for tents alone, which gives you a sense of the costs involved in hosting community events, even for short periods.

On the development side, Ward 1 is looking at a new townhouse development. Application #SP 25 67 is for 376, 390 Derry Rd W and 0 Oaktree Circle. This is still "Application in Process," according to the city's active development applications, but it's another sign of the city pushing outwards, creating more housing.

What does this all mean?

* **Community Events:** Those Bani Hashi Society tents suggest significant community gatherings planned for 2026. Keep an eye out for details on what events they might be hosting.

* **Safety First:** There's also a $50,180 permit for Spectra Confectionery in Ward 5 for sprinkler and fire alarm upgrades. Because even industrial facilities need to stay up to code – it’s not just about what looks good, you know?

* **Future Housing:** The townhouse development in Ward 1 is one to watch. With the housing crunch we have, especially for young families, every new project makes a difference.

The real story is never on the Hill – it's always just off it.
