Here's your weather alert, Peterborough. Don't go outside.
Here's the thing about Peterborough: we're used to the flow of the seasons, but sometimes that river really overflows. Environment Canada has issued a significant winter storm warning for our area, effective immediately. Expect heavy snowfall, with accumulations projected to reach between 20 and 30 centimetres by late Tuesday evening. Gusting winds up to 60 km/h will create significant blowing snow, severely reducing visibility on roadways, especially along Highway 115 and County Road 7. Travel is not advised unless absolutely essential, and conditions on local streets like George Street and Chemong Road will be treacherous. City crews are on standby, but this is a serious event.
The Otonabee will keep flowing, but our streets will be a challenge. Stay safe, stay warm, and maybe put on a pot of coffee. This is the Electric City — small town, big current. Let's go.
