Your West End street just got denser. Here's how.

Your West End home is about to see more density

Woke up to the rain tapping on the window this morning, feels like a proper Vancouver day. A good day for thinking about how things shift, I guess. And things are definitely shifting in the West End.

On March 12th, Vancouver City Council held a public hearing for a CD-1 Rezoning at 2028-2038 Barclay Street. This vote passed, with Mayor K Sim and Councillors M Klassen, P Meiszner, L Zhou, and R Bligh all voting in favour. This means that parcel of land, currently zoned for lower density, will be redeveloped. For those of us who remember Barclay when it was mostly tree-lined streets and Vancouver Specials, this is a significant change. It's part of a larger trend, really, to get more housing into established neighbourhoods.

We're also seeing some movement on the demolition front. Permit DB-2025-03302 was issued on March 27th to demolish a single detached house from 1953 at 2998 Adanac Street. Forty thousand dollars to take down a piece of Kitsilano history. It’s a familiar story these days, isn’t it? The old making way for… something else. What rises in its place, we'll have to wait and see.

Beautiful out here. Complicated in here. That's the coast.
