That West End Rezoning Carried, What's Next for You?

Checking in from City Hall this morning, where a significant rezoning decision just moved forward. On March 12, the Public Hearing for the CD-1 Rezoning at 2028-2038 Barclay Street saw Mayor Kennedy Stewart, Councillor Melissa Klassen, Councillor Peter Meiszner, Councillor Lena Zhou, and Councillor Rebecca Bligh all vote in favour. The motion carried. This means the proposed development in the West End, likely a multi-unit residential project given the CD-1 (Comprehensive Development) zoning, can proceed to the next stages of approval. The West End is already one of the densest neighbourhoods in Vancouver, so these decisions always ripple out into daily life for residents.
Speaking of development, the City of Vancouver issued five new building permits yesterday, April 2, 2026. One permit, #BP-2026-00994, stands out: a temporary structure permit for 750 Hornby Street for $80,622.90, described as a "SPECIAL EVENT: To erect and install 1 - 40' x 100'..." tent. This sounds like something significant happening right in the heart of downtown, possibly near the Vancouver Art Gallery. We'll be keeping an eye on Hornby Street to see what kind of event is taking shape.
The continued push for density, especially in established areas like the West End, shapes the city in ways that are often debated, but always felt. We'll be watching how this Barclay Street project progresses and what it means for the character of that stretch of the neighbourhood.
