Your West End just got way denser.

You'll Never Guess What's Coming Down in the West End

Alright, let's talk about what's actually moving through City Hall. I've been watching the building permits, and a couple of things stand out from April 2nd. There's a new demolition permit, DB-2026-00523, for 4587 Knight Street, which is set to take down a single detached house built in 1954. That one is valued at $40,000 for the demolition itself. But then you look at what's going up: a new permit, DB-2025-04740, for 2793 E 48th Avenue, for a new two-story, two-family dwelling with two secondary suites. That project clocks in at a hefty $810,000. It's that classic Vancouver story, isn't it? One old home comes down, and something denser, more expensive, goes up in its place.

Speaking of density, there's also the CD-1 Rezoning for 2028-2038 Barclay Street that passed on March 12th. Mayor K. Sim, Councillor M. Klassen, Councillor P. Meiszner, Councillor L. Zhou, and Councillor R. Bligh all voted in favour.

Here’s the breakdown:

* **Demolition:** 4587 Knight Street – a 1954 single detached house.

* **New Construction:** 2793 E 48th Avenue – a two-family dwelling with two secondary suites, valued at $810,000.

* **West End Rezoning:** 2028-2038 Barclay Street received approval.

It shows you the direction we’re headed, doesn't it? The city is trying to address housing, but the scale of what's coming down versus what's going up... it’s always interesting to see how it plays out on the ground. Keep an eye on the West End to see what starts to take shape on Barclay.
