Your West End building just got a green light

Let's talk about what City Hall's been up to. On March 12th, the City Council, including Mayor K. Sim and Councillors M. Klassen, P. Meiszner, L. Zhou, and R. Bligh, unanimously voted to approve a CD-1 Rezoning for 2028-2038 Barclay Street. This is a pretty significant decision for the West End, allowing for a new building in an already dense neighbourhood. These rezonings often mean a shift in what kind of housing can be built, changing the landscape of the area. It sailed through, indicating a clear path forward for whatever is planned for that corner of Barclay.

Right on its heels, a new building permit for $900,000 for "Low Density Housing - New Building - FRONT UNIT" was issued for the same address. We're seeing this pattern a lot: old homes coming down, and new, often more expensive, low-density housing going up. It’s part of the continuous, quiet transformation of our neighbourhoods. Keep an eye on how these redevelopments reshape the character of streets like Charles in the coming years.
