Your new West End tower just got taller at 2038 Barclay Street

Your new condo towers could be taller

Good morning, Vancouver. Beautiful out here. Complicated in here. That's the coast.

It seems City Council is in a mood to build up, specifically in the West End. On March 12, 2026, a Public Hearing for a CD-1 Rezoning at 2028-2038 Barclay Street went to a vote, and it was carried. Mayor K Sim, Councillor M Klassen, Councillor P Meiszner, Councillor L Zhou, and Councillor R Bligh all voted in favour. This rezoning would allow for a new building in the area. The West End, as many know, is already a densely packed neighbourhood, often the first stop for newcomers, with its proximity to Stanley Park and the Burrard Inlet.

Meanwhile, development continues across the city. On April 10, 2026, Vancouver issued five new building permits. A significant permit, DB-2025-03316, was issued for a $5,000,000 addition and alteration project at 6200 Macdonald Street, labeled as "Low Density Housing." Another new building permit, DB-2026-00809, was issued for a $900,000 two-family dwelling at 3058 Charles Street. These numbers, pulled directly from the issued permits list, show the constant churn of construction in our city, from large-scale alterations to new housing units. We'll be watching how these new structures integrate into their existing communities.
