Your city hall just quietly approved another short-term rental
Okay, so this one is interesting. On April 21st, Vancouver City Council held a Special Council meeting. They unanimously carried a business licence application for a short-term rental at 1801-1788 Columbia Street.
This was a unanimous decision, with Councillors B Montague, L Zhou, and S Orr all voting in favour. Councillor R Bligh was absent for this vote, as they were for the Public Hearing on April 14th regarding the CD-1 text amendment for Canada Place. According to the official Council Voting Records, this short-term rental approval went through without a single opposing vote.
It’s another small piece in the puzzle of how we use space in this city, isn’t it? Every time one of these gets approved, you have to wonder what it means for someone looking for a place to actually live long-term. Beautiful out here. Complicated in here. That's the coast.
