Your old street is changing, hey?
Winterpeg. We built a city in the coldest place anyone has any business building a city — and it is genuinely wonderful. Good morning.
We’re starting with something a little heavy this morning, straight from the real-time civic intelligence monitor: two structure fires were reported in Dufferin in the Mynarski ward just after 3:30 AM this morning, April 4, 2026. The first incident, 2026049457, was resolved at 3:44 AM. The second, incident 2026049456, took a bit longer, with WFPS units D24, E101, E6, GATOR91, L1, R5, and R6 on scene, resolving it at 4:45 AM. The monitor data doesn't tell us much more right now, but that’s a tough start to the morning for folks in the neighbourhood.
### Demolitions Across the City
Speaking of change, a lot of old buildings are coming down, hey? The city issued seven demolition permits between March 30 and March 31, 2026. This isn't just one area, either. We're seeing it from St. John's, with a permit for 563 Redwood Avenue, all the way to J.B. Mitchell, where 546 Renfrew Street is slated for demolition by Synergy Homes Inc. In Point Douglas ward alone, two permits were issued for 873 Alfred Avenue and 967 Manitoba Avenue in Burrows Central.
Here's the list of places getting ready for a new chapter:
* 563 Redwood Avenue, St. John's (Mynarski ward)
* 881 Main Street, North Point Douglas (Mynarski ward)
* 546 Renfrew Street, J. B. Mitchell (River Heights - Fort Garry ward)
* 396 Union Avenue W, Chalmers (Elmwood - East Kildonan ward)
* 546 Home Street, St. Matthews (Daniel McIntyre ward)
* 873 Alfred Avenue, Burrows Central (Point Douglas ward)
* 967 Manitoba Avenue, Burrows Central (Point Douglas ward)
These permits, as listed on the civic intelligence monitor, often signal new development or changes in how our neighbourhoods look and feel. It'll be interesting to see what fills these spaces, especially in areas like the North End, which are full of history and new energy.
