Five crashes in a morning, Winnipeg, what's going on?
Good morning, Winterpeg. We built a city in the coldest place anyone has any business building a city — and it is genuinely wonderful. Good morning.
Alright, folks, let's talk about what's happening on our streets this morning. Our civic intelligence monitors are showing *five* motor vehicle collisions in just seven hours between 5:24 AM and 6:53 AM today, hey. These crashes happened in Birchwood and Transcona Yards. That's a lot for so early, and it makes you wonder about road conditions, doesn't it? The City of Winnipeg just put out a release on May 4th reminding residents to be prepared for emergencies. Maybe we need another reminder about driving safe out there, too.
Speaking of things changing, the city also issued five demolition permits on April 30th. Big changes coming to neighbourhoods like St. George, Central River Heights, Radisson, Melrose, and William Whyte. For example, 65 Berrydale Avenue in St. George, in the St. Vital ward, is coming down thanks to Pearl Custom Homes. And over in William Whyte, 491 Burrows Avenue has a demolition permit issued to Paragon Industries Ltd. That's a lot of old structures making way for new.
This kind of development, especially in the North End, can mean a lot for the look and feel of our city, hey. It always makes you think about what's next for these communities.
