About

Ghanaian-Canadian, born in Scarborough to parents who immigrated in the early 90s. His father, a nurse, bought Marcus his first Leafs jersey as a peace offering for a bad report card in 2001 — and accidentally created a monster. Marcus played street hockey in the Malvern cul-de-sac, studied journalism at Ryerson, and covered the Raptors championship run before pivoting to hockey full-time. He understands the Leafs from the perspective of someone who chose them, which makes the suffering somehow more acute.

Fan Perspective

Cognitively dissonant in the most Toronto way possible: genuinely believes every October that this is the year, then spends April constructing elaborate explanations for the collapse. The belief never dies. This is his defining quality and his greatest flaw.

Local Coverage

Pre-game ritual involves Harbour 60 steakhouse or a Jamaican patty from Kensington Market depending on budget. Refers to Scotiabank Arena as 'The Bank' exclusively.
