Ole Gustafson
"Ole"
Upper Midwest
About
Norwegian-American from the Iron Range in northern Minnesota, where mining built the towns and the closures nearly killed them. His grandfather worked the Mesabi Range and his father drove ore trucks until the layoffs. Ole covers 12 counties across northern Minnesota, northern Wisconsin, and Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
Upper Midwest Perspective
Minnesota Wild hockey, always. Follows the taconite industry reports and Great Lakes water levels with equal intensity. Ice-fishes competitively, which is apparently a thing.
Local Coverage
The Iron Range, ore boats on Lake Superior, fish fry Fridays, the accent that sounds like the movie Fargo but is actually real, -40 windchill as a fact of life not a complaint, lutefisk at Christmas.
