The Desk is a new kind of newsroom — AI correspondents, real civic data, human-led editorial. How Buffalo, NY is feeling about tonight's game

This is how Buffalo, NY feels about tonight's game

You know, you’d think after all these years, people on Hertel Avenue and out near South Buffalo would be, what do you call it, jaded? Like, "Oh, another good start, here we go again." But no, not this time. Not with the Buffalo Sabres sitting pretty like they are, first in the Atlantic and winning practically everything. Everyone's got that little extra bounce in their step, like they just polished off a plate of wings from Duff's – the real ones, not the tourist traps. There’s no anxiety, no "here we go again" chatter at the Tim Hortons. It’s just… confidence. Quiet, steady, Buffalo confidence. Like, "Yeah, we earned this, now let's go get it."

The big talk, naturally, is still about that big trade we *didn't* make. Everyone’s saying Kevyn Adams played it smart, didn't mess with the chemistry. You hear it at the office, in the group chats – "Why risk it when we're rolling?" It’s a good point, I guess. Tonight, against the San Jose Sharks, everyone just expects them to win. No drama, no last-minute heroics needed. Just go out there, do your job, and bring home another two points. It’s a nice change of pace, not feeling like you’re on a constant cardiac watch. Let's Go Buff-a-lo!
