Your Flames didn't quit and that's all that matters
Man, what a finish last night down at the Saddledome. If you went to bed early, you missed the Calgary Flames clawing back a gritty 4-3 overtime win against the Tampa Bay Lightning. It was a proper roller coaster. We jumped out to a 3-1 lead with Victor Olofsson and Matthew Frost potting quick ones in the first, then Mikael Backlund added another in the second. But those Lightning boys, they’re not just some beer league team, eh? They tied it up late in the third. I saw a few folks heading for the exits on Olympic Way, probably thinking about their drive home. They missed out.
You gotta give it up for Ryan Strome. Twenty-six seconds into overtime, he buried it, and the building just erupted. It was a beauty, set up by Mikhail Gridin and Kevin Bahl. That was a big one after D. Raddysh and P. Holmberg had snuck those pucks past us to tie it up. The Flames got outshot 35-29, which tells you Tampa Bay was pushing, but Jacob Markstrom stood tall when it counted. It takes more than just shots to win, it takes guts, and the Calgary Flames showed plenty of it last night.
This win, it doesn’t exactly launch us into the playoffs, but it keeps the motor running. At 29-34-7 with 65 points, we’re still a long shot, but momentum matters, especially when you’re building for next year. Plus, beating a team like the Lightning, even if they're not at full tilt, shows what this young roster can do when they dig deep. It means a good feeling across Calgary this morning, maybe even a Peters' Drive-In milkshake for some. More importantly, it shows we can still *win*, and that's crucial before those *other* guys come to town.
Red and gold forever — give'r, Calgary.
