Here's what happened to the Calgary Flames last night (CGY 5, ANA 3)

Your Flames woke up just in time to win

Alright, Calgary, another road win for the Flames last night down in Anaheim, a 5-3 decision against the Ducks. If you fell asleep after the first, you missed a pretty good comeback. The Calgary Flames started slow, giving up the first one to Ben Sennecke, but J. Farabee answered back quick. The second period was where the Calgary Flames really turned the screws, scoring three straight from R. Strome, M. Gridin, and M. Frost to make it 4-1. They gave the Ducks a bit too much rope in the third, letting them cut it to one, but Frost sealed it with an empty-netter. The shots were a bit lopsided, 20 for us and 39 for them, which isn't ideal, but sometimes you just gotta find a way to win ugly.

The turning point was definitely that second period surge. Farabee, Gridin, and Frost all looked sharp, really driving the play when it mattered. Even with the Ducks pushing hard in the third and getting that power play goal from Mason McTavish, the Flames held on. That empty netter from Matthew Frost was a big relief, preventing any last-second panic. It’s a good sign when the boys can grind out a win on the road, even when they’re not playing their absolute best. It shows some grit, that’s for sure.

Here’s what this means for us moving forward:

* The Calgary Flames are now 32-36-8, sitting at 72 points.

* We're still seventh in the Pacific, battling for that last wildcard spot.

* That’s six wins in our last ten, so the team is finding some consistency.

* The upcoming schedule is tough, but these kinds of road wins are crucial for momentum.

This morning, the mood in Calgary should be a bit lighter. A win is a win, especially one where the team shows some pushback. You can almost smell the Peters' Drive-In milkshakes being ordered across the city. We're still in the hunt, and that's all you can ask for at this point in the season. Keep pushing, boys.

Red and gold forever — give'r, Calgary.
