Charlotte might bring back those red light cameras you hate.

Your city council is thinking about bringing back red light cameras

Alright so check it—you remember those red light cameras, man? The ones that used to flash you on Providence Road or down by South Boulevard, making you jump even if you weren't doing anything wrong? Well, the Charlotte City Council is actually considering bringing 'em back. Yeah, for real. A committee met recently to talk about it, and if they move forward, we could see those things popping up at intersections all over the Queen City again. This ain't just some abstract policy thing, man, this is about your daily commute.

What This Means for Charlotte Drivers

Real talk, I got mixed feelings on this one. On one hand, nobody wants to see folks running lights, causing wrecks, especially when you're just trying to get across town, maybe grab some breakfast from Price's Chicken Coop before the line gets too long. Traffic out here on I-77 and even just local spots like Freedom Drive, it's already a beast. Anything that makes our streets safer, you'd think that's a good thing.

* **Safety vs. Revenue:** Proponents say it's about safety, reducing accidents at busy intersections. Critics, though, they always argue it's more about generating revenue for the city than actually making folks drive better.

* **Your Wallet:** Those tickets? They add up, man. And if you're not careful, it could be a hit to your pocketbook you didn't see coming.

* **The Daily Drive:** Imagine trying to navigate Trade and Tryon, or get through Ballantyne in the morning, with these things watching every move. It changes the whole vibe of the drive.

Man, for a city that's constantly trying to brand itself as "world-class," sometimes we just need to figure out the basics, you know? Like, if we're gonna bring back cameras, let's also talk about fixing some of these intersection designs that are just bottlenecks anyway. It feels like another thing that's gonna just add stress to our already wild commutes, especially when you're just trying to get home to the neighborhood after a long day.

Queen City on the wire — morning's looking right.

You know Keith and the crew are gonna have some thoughts on this one – check 'em out live at mornings.live.
