Roman nails to keep the dead quiet? Wild.

SHARE

Yo, did you hear about these Roman nails

Alright so check it—you ever heard of somebody being buried with nails on their chest? Man, I’m talking about archeologists in Rome found three skeletons, right, and they all got these iron nails on 'em. And the theory is, these folks back in the day, they thought those nails would *protect* the living and the dead. Like, keeping restless spirits from, you know, roaming around and messing with folks. Real talk, that's wild. You go through all that trouble to bury somebody, and then you gotta nail 'em down just in case they decide to pop up again. Makes you think about how much folks were really out here believing in ghosts and spirits.

It just makes me wonder, man, what kind of rituals we got going on around here in Charlotte that nobody talks about? You know, the stuff that maybe ain't as dramatic as iron nails, but still got that old superstition baked into it. We got churches on every corner, but I bet if you dig deep enough, you’ll find some old traditions, maybe from way back on Freedom Drive or down in the Historic West End, that folks still low-key do. We ain't out here nailing folks to their coffins, but maybe we got our own ways of keeping the peace, you know?
