Here's what happened to the Colorado Avalanche last night (COL 3, WSH 2)

Your Avalanche just pulled out a tough one, you gotta see it

Alright, Denver, let's talk about that one. Your Colorado Avalanche found a way last night, battling back to take down the Washington Capitals 3-2 in overtime. If you tucked in early, you missed a pretty wild third period and a quick finish in the extra frame. This wasn't one of those games where the Avs were cruising; they were climbing uphill for most of it, but sometimes you just gotta grind out the result, and that's exactly what they did on the road.

The Capitals' J. Sourdif got them on the board first in the opening period, and it stayed that way for a long stretch. The Avs offense, usually so potent, just couldn't find its footing until Gabriel Landeskog got a huge third-period goal early off a feed from Martin Necas, tying it up and really shifting the momentum. Then, Nathan Roy put the Colorado Avalanche ahead, only for Alexander Ovechkin to tie it on the power play late in the third. But just when you thought it might be a long night, Brandon Nelson, with another assist from Necas and one from Devon Toews, ended it quickly in overtime. It wasn't a shotsfest from either side, with the Avs putting up 24 to Washington's 22, but the quality in those key moments made the difference.

This win is huge for the Colorado Avalanche. It keeps them atop the Central Division with 102 points, extending their lead and just cementing that top seed. A tough road trip like this, grabbing two points when you're not at your absolute best, that's the mark of a team ready for a deep run. The boys are back home soon, and the vibe across the city this morning, from the highlands to the DTC, is just that quiet confidence. It's good to know your team can still find a way to win when the terrain gets a little rough.

Altitude hockey — the air is thin and the Avs are here. Vanny out.
