Your Columbus Blue Jackets defense was *chefs kiss* last night
Okay, so waking up this morning, I gotta be real — a 1-0 loss to the New York Islanders on the road feels…complicated. If you fell asleep after the first period, you basically saw the whole game. Bo Horvat potted one just 1:25 into the first, assisted by Anders Lee and Alexander Romanov. And that was it. Like, all of it. Our Columbus Blue Jackets put up 26 shots, but Ilya Sorokin for the Islanders was just a brick wall. Daniil Tarasov for the Blue Jackets was also incredible, stopping 21 of 22 shots. He deserved better, honestly.
The Blue Jackets' defense was honestly a masterclass after that early goal. Guys like Zach Werenski and Damon Severson really locked it down, keeping the Islanders from getting any more good looks. We had some chances, especially in the third period, with Patrik Laine unleashing some absolute rockets and Kent Johnson buzzing around. But Sorokin just swallowed everything. It’s a tough pill to swallow when you play that hard defensively and can’t find the back of the net, especially with the way our guys have been clicking lately.
So, what does this mean for Columbus? Well, the Columbus Blue Jackets are still holding strong at 3rd in the Metropolitan Division with 85 points. Our recent run has been incredible, going 6-1-3 in the last 10, so one loss in regulation, especially a 1-0 road game, isn't the end of the world. But you know, every point matters right now. We head home to Nationwide Arena next, and we need to get back to scoring goals. People grabbing their Buckeye Donuts on High Street this morning are probably feeling a mix of pride in the D and frustration over the O. We just gotta shake it off and bring that cannon energy back for the next one.
Cannon goes boom — Blue Jackets hockey from Columbus, Ohio.
