The Indianapolis Colts just went shopping and we need to talk

They’re patching holes in the dike, not building a new river. That’s what these Indianapolis Colts moves tell me, plain as day, standing right here on the Monon Trail. We’re not going all-in, and we’re certainly not rebuilding from the foundation up. This is a team trying to stay competitive, trying to keep its head above water after a tough 8-9 season that ended on a seven-game slide. Bringing back guys like Mo Alie-Cox and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, and adding depth pieces like Jerry Tillery and Derrick Nnadi on the defensive line, or Jonathan Owens in the secondary? It screams 'plug-and-play' rather than 'game-changer.'

Now, if you're asking me what's got folks around St. Elmo's talking, it’s probably a mixed bag. The return of Alie-Cox makes sense; he knows the system, and that's stability. But I think the real conversation starter, for better or worse, is Cam Taylor-Britt. He’s got potential, sure, but after watching that defense struggle last year, especially in coverage down the stretch, people are looking for more than just potential. We need a consistent lockdown corner, not just another piece in the rotation. The front office knows our secondary got picked apart, and these moves feel like they’re trying to add bodies without necessarily adding *impact* talent that truly moves the needle.

Here’s the deal: these signings don't change my expectations for next season significantly. We’re still a few big swings away from being a genuine contender in the AFC. We absolutely, unequivocally need a true playmaker on the defensive side – someone who can disrupt, who can get to the quarterback consistently, or that elite corner I just mentioned. I'd be looking for a high-impact pass rusher or a top-tier safety who can clean up mistakes. Until then, these are just bandages. The horseshoe don't lie, Indy. I'll be here when the dust settles.

You know, the morning crew always has the pulse of this town – catch their take on these signings live at mornings.live.
