Your Colts are playing it safe and it makes me nervous

Here's the deal, Indy. We just watched the Indianapolis Colts re-sign Luke Tenuta to a contract, and while I appreciate the depth along the offensive line, it's not exactly the kind of move that's going to get folks at Half Liter BBQ & Beer Hall spilling their pulled pork sandwiches in excitement. This tells me the front office is looking to fill holes, sure, but they’re doing it with a careful, almost timid approach. After finishing 8-9 and a brutal seven-game losing streak to end last season, you'd think there would be a bit more urgency, a bit more of that "let's go get it" mentality. Right now, it feels like they’re patching up the old fence instead of building a new one.

Frankly, I think the fan base around Monument Circle is less "excited" and more "patiently waiting." They understand the importance of depth, especially up front, but the real buzz comes from splashier moves, the kind that send a message that the Indianapolis Colts are serious contenders in the AFC. We still desperately need another playmaking wide receiver who can consistently get open, and a legitimate pass rusher opposite Kwity Paye to truly disrupt opposing quarterbacks. Someone who can bend the edge and live in the backfield. That's the kind of player that changes games, not just fills out a roster spot.

My expectations for next season don't really shift dramatically with this kind of move. It’s a foundational piece, which is fine, but it doesn't move the needle for a team that wants to get back to the kind of consistent winning we saw during the Manning years.
