Six KC businesses got busted for illegal gambling. Seriously?

You know this weather is just wild right

So look—we’re standing here on the cusp of what feels like summer, the Plaza lights ain’t even on for Christmas yet, and already the city’s got its hands full with folks trying to play games. I'm talking about these illegal gambling machines, come on now. Mayor Lucas just announced six businesses got shut down because of it. Six. That ain't no small number. You walk down Troost, or even around some corners in Westport, and you see these places, sometimes they look like a regular storefront, but you know what's really going on inside.

It’s one thing to have a little fun at the tables in North Kansas City, where it's all legal and regulated, but this? This just pulls resources, it drains neighborhoods, and it ain't helping anybody who's trying to make an honest living here in Kansas City. We got enough going on with trying to get the streetcar expanded past UMKC, and keeping our arts scene thriving in the Crossroads, we don't need these shadow economies messing with our vibe. KC is better than that. We deserve better than that.

KC on the wire — where the jazz plays and the sauce means something.

You know, the morning crew always has the real talk on stuff like this — catch 'em live at mornings.live.
