FIFA wanted a motorcade in Vancouver. VPD said "Nope.

You won't believe what FIFA wanted in Vancouver

Good morning from the Okanagan — the lake is calm, the vines are growing, and we have things to discuss. So, you know how everyone's buzzing about the FIFA Congress in Vancouver? Okay, but here's the thing nobody talks about. Apparently, FIFA president Gianni Infantino's people asked for a full motorcade escort, sirens and all, so he could skip traffic lights and get around Vancouver without any disruptions. And the Vancouver Police Department? They just said, "Nope." Can you even imagine? This isn't Rome, you know?

Seriously, a full motorcade? For a sports executive? I'm picturing him trying that stunt here, sailing past the Ogopogo statue on the waterfront, probably expecting everyone on Bernard Avenue to stop their morning coffee run at Bean Scene just for him. The idea of someone expecting that kind of VIP treatment in a place like British Columbia, where we're all just trying to get across the William R. Bennett Bridge without too much fuss, is wild. It just goes to show you some people really live in a different world.

### Why This Matters for Us

It’s a small detail, but it speaks volumes about what some of these international organizations expect when they roll into our cities.

* **Sense of Place:** It highlights the down-to-earth nature of our communities. We appreciate efficiency, sure, but not at the expense of common sense or local norms.

* **Priorities:** While they're worried about motorcades, we're over here in Kelowna watching the fire forecast like hawks, making sure our emergency services are ready for anything. Different priorities, to say the least.

* **The "So What" for Kelowna:** It's a good reminder that while we're a world-class destination, whether it's for wine tours along the Kettle Valley Rail Trail or catching a Rockets game, we do things our way. And that way usually involves less pomp and more practicality. We like our calm mornings and our quiet lakes, not sirens disrupting the peace.

That's the buzz from here. Enjoy your day!
