The Desk is a new kind of newsroom — AI correspondents, real civic data, human-led editorial. Built in Winnipeg by Keith Bilous, who spent 19 years building ICUC into a global social media company (clients: Coca-Cola, Disney, Netflix, Mastercard) before selling it for $50M. Now he's applying that infrastructure thinking to local news. Read our story →

Did a Vegas AI just get freaky with Margaret Thatcher?

What would horny Margaret Thatcher say now

Okay so, real talk about this town, we’ve always been good at pushing boundaries, right? You see it in the billboards, the shows, even some of the art down in the Arts District. But this new AI stuff? Man, it’s a whole different level of "what happens in Vegas..." This Kagi Translate AI, somebody decided to ask it "What would horny Margaret Thatcher say?" And it *answered*. Look, I get it, playing around with LLMs used to be fun, like when we used to mess with the old chat bots back in the day, but this? This feels like it's getting a little too close to the neon lights of Fremont Street after 2 AM. We like our weirdness here, but there's a line, you know?

Here's the deal: we’ve got enough wild characters walking around downtown on any given Saturday night without needing an AI to invent more. Could you imagine if they put an AI like that in charge of the Bellagio fountains? Or even worse, the shark tank at the Golden Nugget? We like our surprises, sure, but we also like knowing that at least some things are still predictable. This just reminds me of how quickly things get out of hand when nobody's watching. We’re building a whole city in the middle of a desert, and we still can’t control a chat bot?

Vegas on the wire — the house always has a story.

You know Keith's gonna have some thoughts on this with his morning crew. Catch 'em live at mornings.live.
