Manitoba's taking back 18% from your speeding tickets.

Morning from the Beautiful Plains — here's what's blooming in Neepawa.

### We're making sure everyone pays their speeding tickets

Did you hear that the province is setting up its own collection unit for fines? Justice Minister Matt Wiebe says Manitoba is finally going in-house to collect things like speeding tickets and court-ordered fines, instead of paying an outside agency a hefty 18% commission. Honestly, it makes so much sense. Why are we paying someone else almost a fifth of what's owed when we could keep that money working for us right here in Manitoba?

This is something that affects every corner of our province, including right here in Neepawa. Think about those traffic stops on the Yellowhead Highway, especially after a long weekend when folks are heading back from Riding Mountain. Or maybe it's a parking ticket downtown near the Margaret Laurence House during the Lily Festival. Every one of those fines, big or small, represents money that should be coming back into the system. If we're keeping more of that 18% commission, that's more funds for services across Manitoba.

Here’s why this matters to us:

* **More Money for Manitoba:** That 18% commission adds up. Keeping it means more resources for provincial services, from healthcare to roads.

* **Fairness for Everyone:** It ensures that everyone is accountable. When fines are collected efficiently, it reinforces the idea that the rules apply to all, whether you're driving through town or just parked on Mountain Avenue.

* **Local Impact:** This isn't just about big city fines. It’s about every ticket issued, every court fine in every community, including our own fast-growing Neepawa.

This change is about making sure the system is efficient and fair for all Manitobans. It means the fines collected from folks zooming past HyLife or heading out towards the Neepawa & Area Cattlemen's operations will be put to better use, right here at home.
