They nailed three skeletons in Rome. What would we do, cher?

Rome is nailing dead folks to keep 'em quiet, cher!

Honey, you ain't gonna believe what they found over in Rome! Archaeologists, bless their hearts, they diggin' up this old Roman cemetery, right? And they findin' skeletons with *iron nails* hammered into their chests. Not just one, baby, *three* of 'em! They sayin' it was to keep the restless spirits from walkin' around and causin' trouble for the livin'. Can you even imagine? Like, you finally get to rest, and then BAM, somebody put a nail in you so you don't come back and haunt the neighbors. Wild, I tell you.

Now, that's New Orleans, baby — we bury our dead above ground and keep the music below. But even we ain't doin' all *that* in our cities of the dead! We got our own ways of respectin' the ancestors, and yeah, sometimes we got some lagniappe for 'em, a little coin on the tomb, some flowers, maybe a shot of whiskey. But nobody's gettin' nailed down! We believe in letting the spirits do their thing, marchin' with the second line if they feel like it. Maybe those Romans just didn't have enough good brass bands to keep their dead happy, hmm?
