You deserve better than this from your Ottawa Senators

Well, bonjour, eh? Woke up this morning feeling like I’d just shoveled the driveway after a March blizzard, all that effort for nothin’ much to show for it. The Ottawa Senators, they went down 4-3 to the New Jersey Devils in overtime last night, another point left on the table. It was a rollercoaster, mind you. Nico Hischier and Curtis Brown got the Devils up by two early, a shorthanded goal from Brown even, which just sticks in your craw, eh? But the Ottawa Senators, they dug deep in the second. Mark Kastelic, Shane Pinto on the power play, and then Egor Sokolov all tied it up. We had a chance, a real chance, but then Dawson Mercer scored a shorthanded goal in the third, and Hischier finished it in overtime. Just feels like a kick to the gut, doesn't it?

The boys showed some fight, yeah, you gotta give 'em that. Coming back from two goals down against a team like the Devils, that takes somethin'. Shane Pinto, he’s lookin' good, steady as she goes out there, eh? And Egor Sokolov with the goal, you love to see that grit. But two shorthanded goals against us? That’s just sloppy. You can't be giving up those kinds of chances, especially when you're fighting for every single point like the Ottawa Senators are. It just makes you wonder about the focus, doesn't it? You get the sense they're almost there, but "almost" doesn't get you past the Maple Leafs in the standings.

So, where does this leave us, eh? The Ottawa Senators are still sitting fifth in the Atlantic, holding onto that Wildcard #2 spot with 97 points. But the gap isn't getting any bigger, is it? We’ve got a tough stretch ahead, every game is a playoff game now, and we’re still giving away points like free samples at the ByWard Market. This team, they gotta find a way to close these games out, especially against division rivals. Otherwise, we’re just gonna be staring at another summer of "what if" scenarios, and frankly, I'm tired of those. The city of Ottawa, it deserves better, eh?
