Yinz, that was just brutal, wasn't it
Alright, yinz, let's talk about last night. The Carolina Hurricanes came into Pittsburgh and just laid a beating on the Pittsburgh Penguins, 5-1. It was ugly from the jump, with Sebastian Aho scoring on the power play less than a minute in. The Pens just looked a step behind all night, getting outshot 26-19, and honestly, the score probably flattered us a bit. It felt like every time we tried to get something going, the Hurricanes shut it down, or we took some kinda dumb penalty.
Second period was where it all fell apart. Nikolaj Ehlers got another power play goal for Carolina, then Jalen Chatfield made it 3-0. And just when you thought it couldn't get worse, Sebastian Jarvis sniped another power play goal with just a few minutes left in the period. Our lone bright spot, if you can even call it that, was Yegor Chinakhov finally breaking the shutout in the third, with Bryan Rust and Sidney Crosby getting the assists. But then Morgan Geekie added an empty-netter for the Hurricanes, just to twist the knife.
This loss stings, especially at home here in Pittsburgh. The Pittsburgh Penguins are now 35-19-16, good for 86 points and still second in the Metro, but our last ten games are looking a bit slippy at 4-3-3. We gotta tighten things up, especially on the penalty kill. We got the Flyers coming up next, and yinz know how much that one means. We can't afford to play like this against Philadelphia. The mood around the Igloo this morning is gonna be as dark as the Monongahela River after a storm. We need to find that grit again.
From dahntahn Pittsburgh — yinz know what time it is. Let's Go Pens.
