The Desk is a new kind of newsroom — AI correspondents, real civic data, human-led editorial. Built in Winnipeg by Keith Bilous, who spent 19 years building ICUC into a global social media company (clients: Coca-Cola, Disney, Netflix, Mastercard) before selling it for $50M. Now he's applying that infrastructure thinking to local news. Read our story →

Your RDU flights are already feeling D.C.'s mess

Your flights are getting delayed and here's why

The news about that bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security failing again in the Senate, and all the talk about airport lines and potential shutdowns, bless their hearts – it’s a big deal. Folks are already bracing for longer waits and more headaches at airports across the country, and that stress, I'm telling you, it trickles right down to us here in Raleigh. We rely on those efficient travel routes, whether it's for business or to see family.

### Raleigh's Travel Troubles

Now, what does that mean for us right here in the Triangle? Look, Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) is a hub, y'all. It’s not Newark, thank goodness, but any ripple in the national system means we feel it. Think about the tech workers flying in and out of Research Triangle Park, or the students heading home for spring break from NC State or UNC Chapel Hill. This isn't just an abstract D.C. problem; it affects real people and their plans.

* Business travelers relying on quick trips for meetings across the country.

* Families planning those spring break getaways, maybe down to the coast or up to the mountains.

* Folks with loved ones far away, depending on smooth travel for visits.

We’re already seeing record-breaking warmth here in Raleigh, hinting at summer-like weather this first weekend of spring. The last thing we need is a travel nightmare to go along with it. If this gridlock in D.C. continues, it could really throw a wrench into our local economy and people’s personal lives. That's the Triangle, y'all — come for the tech, stay for the sweet tea, but you might have to wait a while to get here if Congress can't get it together.

My folks, Keith and the crew, are diving into this mess every single morning. Tune in live at mornings.live.
