Your Rebels guys just keep making us proud
Morning from Central Alberta — five communities, one correspondent, and all the stories the big papers forgot.
Well now, I'll tell you what, there are a lot of stories stirring things up, from folks fighting for the Eastern Slopes to folks down in Calgary wondering why they don't feel safe walking around the Beltline anymore. But sometimes, it's the quiet stories, the ones that remind you why you like a place, that stick with you. And for me, that's hearing about our Red Deer Rebels.
### Saying Goodbye to the Centrium
You know, it's a funny thing about these junior hockey players. They come into Red Deer, often just kids, fresh off the QE2, maybe a little wide-eyed looking at the big grain elevators on the horizon, and they become part of the fabric of this town. Aleksey Chichkin and Tyson Yaremko, those two fellas, they didn't have a long run with the Rebels, coming in partway through the season. But hearing them talk about their time here, you can tell it meant something. They wrapped up their final WHL season at the Peavey Mart Centrium, and even for a short stint, it's clear they felt that Red Deer welcome.
* **Chichkin's Impact:** Aleksey, a forward from Russia, put up 14 points in 28 games. He brought a good work ethic every night.
* **Yaremko's Presence:** Tyson, a local boy from the Edmonton area, played 30 games and was a solid, reliable presence in the lineup.
* **The Rebels Spirit:** It's more than just wins and losses; it's about the connections these young men make with the community.
It reminds you that even in a bustling city like Red Deer, there’s still that small-town feel, especially around the rink. Whether it’s families from Kentwood taking their kids to games or folks from Glendale catching a Friday night puck drop, these players become part of our story, even if just for a little while. And when they leave, it's like saying goodbye to a neighbour, even if you only knew them from the stands.
You know, the team's got a real good bunch of stories about this on the morning show. They're on every day at mornings.live.
