URSU just blew how much of your money on a lawsuit?

You won't believe what happened at URSU

Oh, friends. So, you know how things can get a little… lively, let's say, when it comes to university politics? Especially at the University of Regina, eh? Well, it just got a whole lot more expensive for the University of Regina Students' Union (URSU). Turns out, a judge just ruled that they wrongfully dismissed their former president, Haris Khan, and now they're on the hook for tens of thousands of dollars. We're talking a year's salary, RRSP benefits, and even "moral damages" on top of that. Yikes.

### What This Means for Students

Now, I know some folks might just shrug and say 'that's just how these things go,' but this isn't just a number on a page, is it? This is student money. The URSU is supposed to be advocating for students, making sure things run smoothly on campus — everything from the student services over by College Avenue to the events they put on in the Riddell Centre. When an organization like that gets dinged with a payout this big, it makes you wonder about the decisions being made, eh? It’s a significant amount coming out of the URSU's pocket, and that money could definitely be used for other things benefitting the students they represent.

* A year's salary for the former president.

* RRSP benefits he missed out on.

* "Moral damages" on top of everything else.

This is Regina — yeah, we know what it sounds like, and we've heard your joke. Now sit down and listen. It’s a reminder that even when things seem contained within the walls of a university, the decisions have real-world impacts right here in our city. It means less potential for student programming, less for new initiatives, or even less wiggle room for advocating on big issues down at the Legislative Building. Every dollar counts, especially for students.
