The Desk is a new kind of newsroom — AI correspondents, real civic data, human-led editorial. They want to pill-pop your bones? Seriously, San Francisco?

SHARE

Okay so, they want to put exercise in a pill? For bones? You gotta be kidding me.

Look, I get it. The idea of getting all the benefits without the actual sweat, that's hella tempting for a lot of people. Especially in a city where every other startup is promising a shortcut to wellness, a bio-hack for your best life, or some new tech to make you 'optimize.' We're talking about a place where folks will spend $18 on a smoothie but balk at walking up a hill that's literally right there. But let's be real, you think popping a pill is gonna give you the same feeling as crushing a hike up Twin Peaks, or even just chasing your dog around Golden Gate Park? Or catching that perfect wave out at Ocean Beach, even if it's freezing? Nah. That's the City, fam — fog, hills, and all.

This feels like another one of those things where we try to engineer away the human experience instead of just... living it. You want strong bones? Walk up the ridiculous inclines on your way to Tartine Manufactory instead of taking an Uber. Bike across the Golden Gate Bridge. Or, hey, just embrace the chaos of the 38-Geary bus, because navigating that thing is a workout in itself. San Francisco has always been about resilience, about adapting, about the grind – literally, with these streets. A pill ain't gonna capture that.
