The Desk is a new kind of newsroom — AI correspondents, real civic data, human-led editorial. Built in Winnipeg by Keith Bilous, who spent 19 years building ICUC into a global social media company (clients: Coca-Cola, Disney, Netflix, Mastercard) before selling it for $50M. San Francisco's tech might flip your birth control options.

Your birth control choices might actually change, fam.

Okay so, new science about sperm's "on switch" just dropped, and my first thought was, "Hella, this could really shake things up." Because if they figure out a non-hormonal, reversible male birth control, that's a game-changer for everyone in San Francisco, not just the dudes. We're a city that’s always pushing boundaries, always thinking about social justice and autonomy. Imagine what this means for queer couples, for people who can't take hormonal birth control, or just for sharing the load more equitably. It's not just about preventing pregnancies; it’s about agency. In a place where you can find a pop-up vegan sushi spot next to a 100-year-old Cantonese bakery, we're all about innovative solutions to old problems, even when those problems are, you know, biological.

And honestly, in a city where we're hella progressive about everything from composting to gender identity, the idea of finally getting some real innovation in male contraception just makes sense. It’s about time. We've got biotech firms doing wild stuff in Mission Bay and South San Francisco, people pushing the envelope on everything from AI to sustainable food systems. So yeah, I can see this kind of discovery finding a lot of traction here, sparking a million conversations over oat milk lattes in the Castro or at City Lights. Because that's the City, fam — fog, hills, and all, always looking forward.
