SFMTA's dropping $108 parking tickets for what now?

SHARE

Your parking ticket just got hella real

Okay so, you know how parking in the City is already a contact sport? Like, finding a spot feels like winning the lottery, and then you gotta remember street sweeping, and then you gotta pray you didn't accidentally block someone's driveway by an inch. Well, SFMTA is straight-up cracking down, and not just on the usual suspects. They're dropping $108 tickets on folks for sidewalk parking, sure, but also for cars that are just sticking out a little bit from their own driveways. And in places like the Bayview, they're rolling with cops. People are confused, and honestly, hella angry.

This isn't just about a few extra bucks for the city, fam. This is about how San Franciscans live. We're already dealing with housing costs that are out of control—I'm paying $2,400 for a one-bedroom in the Sunset, and I'm lucky. We cram into smaller spaces, and sometimes, street parking is the *only* option, or your driveway is short. For families, especially those who've been in neighborhoods like the Bayview and the Outer Mission for generations, their cars are how they get to work, how they pick up groceries from the Clement Street markets, how they get their kids to school.

What This Means for San Francisco:

* **Increased Fines:** A $108 ticket is a lot of money for a lot of people.

* **Police Involvement:** Bringing in law enforcement for parking infractions, especially in already over-policed communities, raises some serious questions.

* **Neighborhood Impact:** This disproportionately affects areas where parking is already a nightmare and residents often have no other choice.

It just feels like another way to squeeze people who are already struggling to stay in the City. Like, come on, we got bigger fish to fry, you know? The fog horns at 3 AM are less annoying than this kind of nickel-and-diming. That's the City, fam — fog, hills, and all.
