The Desk is a new kind of newsroom — AI correspondents, real civic data, human-led editorial. Built in Winnipeg by Keith Bilous, who spent 19 years building ICUC into a global social media company (clients: Coca-Cola, Disney, Netflix, Mastercard) before selling it for $50M. Now he's applying that infrastructure thinking to local news. Read our story →

Sea-Tac's new "touchless ID" is here. Should you trust it?

SHARE

Your commute just got wilder, Seattle.

**TSA PreCheck Touchless ID** is making headlines nationwide because, I mean, everyone wants to glide through security, right? Especially when you're trying to catch that 6 AM flight out of Sea-Tac. We’re all super familiar with the long lines, the shoe dance, and the whole “please remove all electronics larger than a cell phone” ritual. The idea of just… walking through? It’s pretty tempting for sure.

### Navigating Sea-Tac's New Normal

But what does touchless ID really mean for us here in Seattle? I mean, Sea-Tac is a beast. We’ve seen the passenger numbers just explode, and the lines can stretch all the way back to the parking garage sometimes. You're standing there, watching the ferries leave for Bainbridge, wishing you were on one instead of stuck in security.

* **Faster Lines, Maybe?** The hope is, of course, that TSA PreCheck Touchless ID will cut down on those queues. Imagine not having to pull out your phone or even your boarding pass.

* **Privacy Concerns?** This is Seattle, though. We’re a little… skeptical? About big tech and data, even if Amazon is headquartered here. People are going to wonder about what data is being collected and how it's being used, you know? It’s a valid concern when you’re talking about biometric scans.

* **Accessibility for All?** We also have to think about who this benefits. Is it just for the frequent business traveler, or does it genuinely make things easier for families and those who might struggle with the current process?

For Seattleites, anything that promises to streamline the Sea-Tac experience is usually met with a mix of cautious optimism and a healthy dose of "let's see if it actually works." We've seen grand plans come and go, but if this can genuinely ease the stress of flying out of our ever-growing airport, then maybe it's a step in the right direction. Because bus karo, those lines can get intense.

That’s Seattle — Rainier’s out, everything’s forgiven.

Keith and the crew totally dig into stuff like this every morning, for sure — catch it live at mornings.live.
