Morning from the Interlake — here's what's happening in Selkirk today.

You hear about what's going on down in the Legislative Building in Winnipeg? I'm talking about the way some of our provincial politicians are acting during committee meetings. Reports are coming out that the Premier was apparently laughing and making barking noises at the Tory leader. And then there's the Justice Minister, who apparently took a full 30 minutes to answer a question. Now, I understand politics can get heated, but this kind of behaviour just isn't what we expect from people representing us. It makes you wonder if they're taking things seriously enough, especially when there's real work to be done for communities like ours.

### Respect and Responsibility

Here in Selkirk, whether you're working at the Gerdau mill or out on the Red River preparing for the pickerel run, there's a certain way we do things. We value respect and getting the job done. Seeing our provincial leaders engage in what sounds like playground antics makes you shake your head. It's not just about decorum; it's about showing that they're focused on the issues that affect us, like keeping our Selkirk Mental Health Centre running well or making sure our roads, like Manitoba Avenue, are maintained.

* This kind of conduct can erode trust in government.

* It distracts from the important discussions happening in committees.

* It sets a poor example for future generations of leaders and citizens alike.

We're not just a suburb of Winnipeg up here; we're an independent city with our own identity and our own expectations for how leaders should conduct themselves. We need our politicians to be serious about the work, not making a spectacle. It affects how much confidence we have in decisions being made that impact the whole Interlake, from Gimli to Beausejour.
