Here's what happened to the St. Louis Blues last night (STL 1, CGY 2)

That Blues loss sure stings this morning

Wakin' up after last night's game in Calgary, I bet a lot of you feel like you just ate a toasted ravioli that was still cold in the middle. The St. Louis Blues fought hard, really, they did, but they ended up dropping a tough one to the Calgary Flames, 2-1, in a shootout. If you went to bed after the second period, you missed a pretty tight affair. We were down early when C. Zary got one past us in the first. But D. Holloway, bless his heart, tied it up in the second with a real nice play, assisted by J. Snuggerud and our captain R. Thomas. Regulation ended knotted up, and then that overtime was a nail-biter, back and forth, felt like an old Blues-Red Wings playoff game from back in the day. Unfortunately, J. Farabee sealed it for the Flames in the shootout, and that's just a gut punch, ain't it?

You gotta hand it to the boys, they didn't quit. They got outshot, 31-27, but they battled. Jordan Binnington was sharp, like a freshly sharpened skates on new ice, keeping us in it when Calgary really pushed. The young guys, like Holloway and Snuggerud, showing some real flashes, and that's somethin' to hang your hat on. But man, those extra points are critical right now. Every single one feels like it's made of solid gold, especially when you're scrapping for a playoff spot. Losing in a shootout, it just feels like leaving money on the table at the grocery store.

So what does this mean for the St. Louis Blues? Well, we're still sitting 7th in the Central, 65 points, and clinging to that Wildcard #7 spot. Our last ten games have been decent, 6-2-2, so we're not falling apart, but these losses sting, especially when they're so close. We got a tough stretch ahead, every game is gonna feel like a playoff game. This city, though, we're resilient. We've seen our share of ups and downs, but we always believe, even if it’s with a little cautious swagger. You just gotta dust yourself off and get ready for the next one, just like you gotta warsh your car after drivin' down Farty-Far. And if you know, you know — Play Gloria.
